Count Studio, an app that counts music for dancers on iPhone and iPad, comes from Kallos Labs LLC, called “Kallos Labs” or “we” below. This page sets out what happens to your information inside the app and on its website, countstudio.app.
In eight counts
Nothing you make in Count Studio comes to Kallos Labs. Songs, counts and count sheets are files that live in iCloud Drive under your Apple Account, or on the device while iCloud Drive is off. The app has no login, contacts no Kallos Labs server and carries no analytics, ads or third-party SDKs, a fact the App Store records as “Data Not Collected”. The website adds one thing, Google Analytics, and that stays switched off unless you accept it.
Songs you bring in
Import a song from the Files app, or pull the audio out of a video, and Count Studio puts a copy of the music in a folder made for that song, together with the app’s analysis of it. With iCloud Drive on, that folder lives inside the Count Studio folder of your iCloud Drive; with it off, inside the app’s own folder on the device. Tempo, beats and counts are calculated locally, on the very iPhone or iPad you hold. We never receive the track; besides the device, its one other possible home is your iCloud Drive, which Apple keeps for you.
A teaching video you import to practise against is held by the app on this device alone. It is not copied to iCloud Drive, and we never get it.
Listen mode and the microphone
Count Studio uses the microphone for Listen mode only, to pick up the music playing in the room and find where its beat falls. iOS asks you before Listen switches on for the first time. While Listen runs, the sound is analysed in memory; it is not kept as a recording and does not leave the device. You can withdraw the permission whenever you like: in the iPhone or iPad settings, open Privacy & Security, choose Microphone and switch Count Studio off.
Mirror mode, the camera and Photos
The camera opens only in Mirror mode, where you see yourself dance with the count laid over the picture. A take recorded there stays on this device, is not copied to iCloud Drive, and leaves it only if you share it yourself. Saving a take to Photos needs add-only access, a permission that lets the app place a new video in your library but not look at anything already in it. The camera switch is under Camera in those same Privacy & Security settings.
Count sheets, your own counts, setlists and presets
The app saves what you build as files: each count sheet, count of your own, setlist and preset is a .cahier file in the Count Studio folder beside your songs. To give one to a partner or a class, send a link or use AirDrop. The item rides inside the link itself, no upload happens along the way, and no one but the people you pick receives it.
Where those files live
Count Studio keeps no database, not in the cloud and not anywhere else. When iCloud Drive is turned on for your Apple Account, the app’s files go into a Count Studio folder in iCloud Drive, which you can browse in the Files app and which Apple stores and syncs under Apple’s own privacy policy. When iCloud Drive is off, the same files stay in the app’s folder on the device, and the Files app shows that folder too. The app has no sync switch of its own. Kallos Labs has no way into your iCloud Drive and gets none of these files. Erasing your data in Count Studio’s Settings removes them.
Buying Count Studio Repertoire
Repertoire is the app’s only paid upgrade: a single App Store purchase that Apple’s StoreKit handles. Apple holds your payment, your card and your Apple Account. All the app hears back is whether Repertoire belongs to you or reaches you through Family Sharing, and it does not hand that answer on to us.
Young dancers
Count Studio never asks who is using it. A child at a first tap class and a company professional get the same app, and nowhere does it request a name, an age, an email address or any other contact detail.
What countstudio.app measures
With your permission, Google Analytics 4 tells us which pages of the site dancers read. Your first visit shows a banner. Before you choose Accept, the site sets no cookie and loads no Google script at all. After Accept, Google Analytics stores its _ga and _ga_* cookies and is told which pages you view, the link or search you arrived from, your browser and kind of device, and an approximate area that Google estimates from the IP address; Analytics 4 keeps that area, never the address. We have left Google’s advertising features turned off. Your browser keeps note of your choice. To change it, press Analytics choice in any page’s footer row and the banner comes back; picking Decline then also clears the analytics cookies. For Google’s description of what it does with data from partner sites, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host it notes basic details of each request, such as the visitor’s IP address and the address requested, and holds them briefly to run the service and keep it secure.
